Welcome to Maths at Sacred Heart
As a school we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme, we use the concrete, pictorial, abstract approach to try and embed the mathematical knowledge and allow the children to fully understand the mathematical concepts. As a school in Years 1-6 we use a pre and post learning to ensure that no gaps are created in the maths learning journey and that all teaching starts at each child's individual starting point and moves their learning on to allow them to make maximum progress.

Why is Maths such an important curriculum subject?
Maths is a core subject in the curriculum and we see it as our mission to ensure our children are literate in all domains of mathematics. Doing so best prepares them for the many ways in which we all use maths each day. In striving to develop our children as confident and fluent mathematicians, we are giving them the very best of opportunities to dream big and flourish in their future endeavours equipped with core skills that last a lifetime.

What do you love about leading Maths at Sacred Heart?
I love the way that maths at Sacred Heart is ‘never dull’! Having lead maths in school for over 10 years, I have worked hard to ensure our maths is; active, diverse, creative, bespoke to our pupils needs and promotes mastery opportunities for all. I have supported the development of quality maths teaching in many other schools and am always on the look out for new ways to bring maths to life for our children. It’s also worth noting that I am the undisputed ‘TT Rockstars’ champion on the Sacred Heart staff!
