Collective Worship and Assemblies
Prayer and Liturgy worship provides a daily opportunity for children to experience different types of prayer and worship. This happens in a variety of groupings and settings and is planned and led by both teachers and the children themselves.
It provides the opportunity for our whole school community to:
pause and reflect on important issues
foster a sense of awe and wonder at the beauty, mystery and power of the natural world
build up the sense of group identity and thinking of others
experience being still or silent
celebrating times of success or joy, sadness or sorrow
focus and reflecting upon core school values and catholic social teaching
This can be a time of greeting, reflection, praise, thanksgiving, meditation, and celebration which takes place throughout the week.
On occasions, our prayer and liturgy takes place in Sacred Heart Church, outside in the school grounds or in our sensory garden.
Monday | Whole school Prayer and Liturgy led by all teaching staff on a rota and followed by hymn singing |
Tuesday | Whole school song, prayer and praise |
Wednesday | EYFS, KS 1 and KS 2 class Prayer and Liturgy |
Thursday | EYFS, KS 1 and KS 2 class or key stage or two classes together Prayer and Liturgy |
Friday | Prayer and Liturgy followed by whole school awards assembly |
At the end of each branch the whole school celebrates with an assembly, to which parents and children of all faiths are invited. One class leads and the rest of the school are invited to join it with a specific part of the celebration. Families are invited starting from the Reception class working through to Y6.
Children all have the opportunity to go to mass at Sacred Heart church throughout the year. This may be as a whole school or in classes.
